The Election Commission of India has scheduled a meeting with a Trinamool Congress delegation on February 2. The delegation, headed by Mamata Banerjee and including Abhishek Banerjee and other party leaders, will address issues related to the Special Intensive Revision of the voter list. Banerjee, along with party MPs and family members affected by the ‘SIR fear,’ will travel to Delhi for the meeting.
The Chief Minister had planned to visit Delhi earlier but postponed her trip due to a tragic plane crash involving Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The Election Commission has permitted a 15-member delegation from the Trinamool Congress to discuss the SIR process. The delegation aims to address concerns such as individuals wrongly marked as ‘deceased’ in the electoral rolls.
Banerjee has written to the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, expressing concerns about the SIR process. Despite sending multiple letters, she has not received any responses. In response, she threatened to escalate the issue by organizing a larger protest in Delhi. Abhishek Banerjee has also highlighted these issues in public rallies across the state.
