The Trinamool Congress legislative party in West Bengal, led by expelled legislator Ritabrata Banerjee, will challenge the legitimacy of the party’s new national working committee (NWC) before the Election Commission of India. This move comes after the formation of the NWC excluding former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee.
Following the announcement of the new NWC by Ritabrata Banerjee, the faction supporting Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee has forwarded details of the original NWC to the ECI. The rebel faction, claiming majority support, plans to present the resolution from the meeting where the new NWC was formed as evidence of legitimacy.
The rebel faction’s committee, established with majority backing, has appointed new office bearers, including Arup Roy as chairperson in place of Mamata Banerjee. Former minister Aroop Biswas, along with MLAs Firhad Hakim and Rathin Ghosh, have also been given key roles in the committee.
