Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh was escorted out and suspended from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for the day after obstructing Opposition Chief Whip Akhruzzaman from speaking. Chaos ensued as Ghosh blocked Akhruzzaman’s participation in a budget debate on the Home and Hill Affairs Department.
Despite appeals for order, Ghosh disrupted proceedings by standing in front of the opposition member’s microphone and chanting slogans. Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose instructed marshals to remove Ghosh from the House due to the ongoing chaos. Ghosh’s suspension followed his removal from the session amid strong protests for his actions.
Claiming that his name was unfairly removed from the speakers’ list by the opposition chief whip, Ghosh protested his exclusion from the budget discussion. Initially included in the list, Ghosh alleged that his name was later removed, prompting his protest in the Assembly. The situation escalated as Ghosh resisted the marshals’ attempts to remove him, resulting in a scuffle and his eventual expulsion from the Assembly.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, without directly naming Ghosh, condemned the incident, emphasizing the need for civility in the Assembly. Following Ghosh’s removal, Assembly proceedings resumed as normal.
