Former state minister and current Trinamool Congress MLA, Rathin Ghosh, visited the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Salt Lake on Monday morning. This visit was related to the municipal recruitment corruption case. Just before his arrival at the CGO complex, the state Cabinet underwent expansion at Lok Bhavan.
Before entering the ED office, Rathin extended his regards to the newly sworn-in ministers of the BJP government. He also acknowledged the public’s discontent towards Trinamool, suggesting that more could have been achieved if shortcomings were addressed. The Trinamool party faced a setback in this year’s state Assembly elections, with its seat count reduced to 80.
Recent incidents have highlighted public anger towards Trinamool leaders. Abhishek Banerjee, a key Trinamool figure, was attacked in Sonarpur, while Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee also faced an assault. Rathin was questioned about public dissatisfaction and party failures, to which he vaguely responded, hinting at missed opportunities due to public sentiment.
Despite the party’s internal challenges, Rathin expressed optimism about the party’s overall status. He attributed his absence from a recent meeting with Mamata Banerjee to health reasons. Rathin, a Trinamool MLA from Madhyamgram, congratulated the new state ministers and anticipated their support in various legislative tasks.
Rathin had previously been summoned by the ED on May 15 and May 25 but did not appear on the latter date. He emphasized compliance with the summons on Monday, stating that he brought the requested documents. Before the elections, Rathin had evaded questioning due to campaign commitments, citing a busy schedule.
