Trinamool Congress MLA and state minority cell chief Mosaraf Hussen announced his resignation from the party post. Hussen, representing the Itahar constituency in North Dinajpur district, disclosed this decision at a press conference at his residence. He attributed his resignation to his mother’s illness but also acknowledged his ties to the rebel faction of Trinamool MLAs in the Assembly.
With the commencement of the first Budget session of the new state government, Hussen’s absence from the house prompted speculations about his allegiance within Trinamool. It was suggested that he had distanced himself from the Mamata Banerjee faction and was leaning towards the rebel camp, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Ritabrata Banerjee.
Hussen confirmed these speculations during his press conference on Sunday. He expressed his inability to continue his previous work due to changes in the state government and his mother’s recent return from Mecca due to illness. Consequently, he declared his decision to step down from his role in the Trinamool Congress’s minority cell.
Out of the five Trinamool MLAs from North Dinajpur district, four have already aligned themselves with Ritabrata Banerjee’s rebel Trinamool camp. Hussen commended Chief Minister Adhikari, highlighting their positive history and emphasizing the importance of regional development. Talks have also taken place with the Leader of the Opposition, Ritabrata Banerjee.
As the new BJP government prepares to present its first budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the state Assembly on Monday, Hussen indicated his intention to attend the session.
