Tripura officially initiated the self-enumeration process for the 2027 Census of India at Lok Bhavan, becoming one of the Northeastern states to do so. The state’s Governor, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, kickstarted the process by completing self-enumeration online, setting an example for citizens.
The first phase of the Census, self-enumeration, began on Friday and will run until July 31, followed by House Listing and House Enumeration from August 1 to August 30. Enumerators, mainly government schoolteachers, will gather household details during this period.
In February 2027, the second phase, Population Enumeration, will take place, where enumerators will collect detailed socio-economic information about individuals. Thousands of census personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, have already been trained for this nationwide exercise.
Highlighting the significance of Census data in national planning and development, Governor Reddy Nallu urged active citizen participation. He emphasized the role of accurate Census information in policy-making, infrastructure planning, and constituency reorganization.
Officials stressed the importance of citizens providing precise details, as inaccurate information could impact development planning and constituency delimitation. The Governor assured confidentiality in data handling, stating that information collected would only be used for planning and developmental purposes.
