Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath initiated the export of 1,000 kg of organic white sesame to Anand, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in the state’s organic export sector. The consignment was sent to Media Minds in Anand, with plans for an additional 5,000 kg of organic white sesame to be dispatched due to high demand.
Loknath Organic Farmer Producer Company (FPC), Dhalai Organic FPC, and Yapri Organic FPC collaborated to procure the sesame directly from farmers, ensuring fair prices and boosting farmers’ income. Minister Nath highlighted the increasing popularity of Tripura’s organic products beyond the state, expressing satisfaction in sending such a consignment at the start of the New Year.
Acknowledging the support from the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) and Sheel Biotech, Nath mentioned that training provided by five organizations to FPCs on procurement and marketing has been crucial. Since 2023-24, Tripura has exported organic products worth Rs 5.50 crore to other states and overseas, with plans for three FPCs to participate in the BioFach organic food trade fair in Germany next month.
In a move to boost agricultural productivity and achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production, the Tripura Agriculture Department recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP) based in Nagpur. This collaboration aims to conduct detailed research on cultivable land in various districts of the state, promoting sustainable farming practices and a prosperous agricultural future for Tripura.
