Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the versatility of pineapple fiber, stating it can be transformed into various high-value products like textiles, garments, and eco-friendly packaging materials. This innovation is seen as a significant opportunity for revenue generation and job creation, especially in rural and agro-based sectors. The state aims to boost its pineapple economy from Rs 35 crore to nearly Rs 200 crore through value addition and market expansion.
The “Queen” variety of pineapple, designated as Tripura’s state fruit in 2018, has become a valuable horticultural product with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Minister Nath highlighted the successful conclusion of the Tripura Queen Pineapple Global Festival 2026 in New Delhi, which showcased the state’s premium-quality produce. The event aimed to strengthen the pineapple value chain, increase farmer incomes, and explore both domestic and international markets.
The festival, attended by dignitaries like Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and BJP leaders, received positive feedback for Tripura’s GI-tagged Queen Pineapple. Awards were presented to outstanding exhibitors, recognizing their contributions to the pineapple sector. The program also included the distribution of free Queen Pineapples to visitors, allowing them to experience the fruit’s unique taste and quality. The event successfully highlighted Tripura’s pineapple sector potential through various activities like exhibitions, business networking, and cultural programs.
