In a significant drug bust, Tripura Police confiscated methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 7.5 crore and apprehended a suspected drug peddler. The seizure occurred during a routine vehicle-checking operation in Damchara, North Tripura district, near the Mizoram border.
Law enforcement officials discovered 1.50 lakh methamphetamine tablets hidden in 15 packets after thoroughly searching the vehicle with the presence of an Executive Magistrate and forensic science personnel. The seized contraband is estimated to be valued at Rs 7.5 crore in the illegal market.
The arrested individual, identified as Anup Nunia from Silcoorie in Assam’s Cachar district, was allegedly involved in drug trafficking. This operation marks one of the largest drug seizures by the Tripura Police recently. Further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the drug trafficking network and apprehend all involved parties.
The North Tripura District Police are dedicated to combating drug trafficking and organized crime through stringent law enforcement and coordinated actions. Their objective is to create a safer, drug-free society. Damchara’s strategic location near the Mizoram border has made it a potential route for drug trafficking activities, with suspicions that the seized methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, were smuggled from Myanmar through Mizoram into Tripura for further distribution to Bangladesh or other regions.
