US President Donald Trump criticized the Supreme Court, alleging it was influenced by foreign interests and a small political movement. He expressed disappointment over the court’s rejection of a specific tariff mechanism but stated it wouldn’t weaken his trade agenda. Trump hinted at the possibility of raising tariff rates beyond current levels.

Trump emphasized that the court’s decision clarified his authority under other statutes, potentially allowing for higher tariff duties. He asserted his power to embargo countries and claimed that the judgment ultimately strengthened his position. Trump highlighted the role of tariffs in resolving international conflicts and framed them as tools of national security and diplomatic leverage.

The Supreme Court’s ruling addressed a specific statutory basis for tariffs but did not eliminate the President’s ability to use other trade laws. Past US Presidents have utilized trade laws tied to national security and emergency powers to impose duties and embargoes, often leading to legal challenges.
