US President Donald Trump hosted a reception at the White House to commemorate Black History Month, emphasizing his efforts in criminal justice reform, the economy, and public safety. During the event, he acknowledged the late civil rights leader Jesse Jackson and praised Indian American leader Harmeet Kaur Dhillon for her role in civil rights enforcement.

Dhillon, an Indian-American lawyer, currently serves as the US Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. Trump highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, including the signing of the First Step Act for criminal justice reform and increased funding for historically Black colleges and universities.

Trump also lauded the country’s economic performance, citing record-high stock market levels and a surge in employment rates. The event featured testimonials from individuals like Alice Marie Johnson, whose life sentence was commuted by Trump, underscoring the impact of his policies on individuals’ lives.

The mention of Dhillon at this significant event reflects the rising influence of Indian Americans in key roles within US administrations, particularly in areas such as civil rights enforcement. Black History Month, observed annually in February, pays tribute to the contributions of African Americans to American history.
