US President Donald Trump announced a significant expansion of the government’s prescription drug discount platform, TrumpRX.gov. The platform will now offer over 600 additional low-cost generic drugs in collaboration with pharmacy and pharmaceutical companies. Trump highlighted that Americans will benefit from reduced drug prices through this initiative.
At a White House event focused on healthcare affordability, Trump emphasized that the platform’s offerings have increased substantially. He mentioned that the platform has already garnered over 10 million visits and saved consumers more than $400 million since its launch earlier this year. Trump described the platform as a game-changer in the medical field.
The expanded platform will feature discounts on medications for various conditions like diabetes, obesity, fertility treatment, and insulin. Trump stressed the importance of informing consumers about affordable generic alternatives and enabling them to compare prices before making a purchase decision. He expressed pride in the platform’s role in making medications more affordable for Americans.
Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban, co-founder of Cost Plus Drugs, voiced his support for the program during the event. Cuban highlighted the bipartisan appeal of cheaper medicines, stating that individuals across political affiliations seek more affordable drug options. He noted that Cost Plus Drugs contributed 559 of the newly added medicines to the platform.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. underscored the pressing issue of rising healthcare costs, labeling it an “existential threat.” Kennedy commended Trump for his efforts in compelling pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz lauded the platform as a groundbreaking tool for medication transparency.
