The political tension between Tamil Nadu’s ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the DMK escalated as TVK MLA G. Saravanan claimed he was enticed with Rs 30-100 crore to switch parties and faced death threats upon refusal. Speaking at the party office in Thoothukudi, Saravanan asserted having evidence supporting his accusations, emphasizing their factual basis over speculation.
Saravanan disclosed details of a Rs 30 crore offer, implicating a Tirunelveli theatre owner and four supporters of an unnamed former minister in the alleged inducement. Despite not revealing the minister’s identity, he highlighted the existence of documentary evidence backing his claims.
The legislator accused individuals of resorting to intimidation tactics beyond monetary incentives, citing threats made at his MLA office. He recounted an incident where a lorry menaced his vehicle, reinforcing his concerns about the seriousness of the threats he faced.
Alleging multiple monetary offers, including Rs 30 crore, Rs 50 crore, and Rs 100 crore, Saravanan claimed persistent harassment and death threats post his rejections. He asserted that his humble background and political journey were seen as vulnerabilities by those pressuring him to defect, amidst the ongoing political rivalry between DMK and TVK.
