Two alleged drug peddlers were apprehended in Assam’s Dhubri district during an anti-drug operation. The police confiscated a stash of suspected psychotropic substances and cash believed to be connected to the illicit drug trade. The arrests were made based on specific intelligence indicating the sale of narcotics in the Chotobajani area under Dhubri Police Station.
Acting on the provided information, a police team conducted a raid in the locality on Monday night. They detained two individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal drug business. The arrested persons were identified as Riyajul Hoque from Adabari Part-II and Ejaj Sheikh from IG Road, both residing within the jurisdiction of Dhubri Police Station.
During a search witnessed by independent observers, law enforcement officers discovered seven bottles of Triprolidine Hydrochloride and Codeine-based cough syrup, along with 134 Spas Plus capsules and 69 Nitcor-10 (Nitrazepam) tablets. Additionally, the police seized Rs 5,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs.
The recovered pharmaceutical items are believed to fall under the purview of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seized substances and money have been taken into police custody for further investigation. A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and authorities are actively probing to determine the origin of the seized substances, unravel the supply chain, and identify other potential associates in the alleged drug trafficking network.
Assam Police has escalated its efforts against narcotics in the state, conducting frequent raids resulting in arrests and the confiscation of drugs, psychotropic substances, and other contraband as part of the government’s anti-drug campaign.
