A Special NDPS Court in Ahmedabad has handed down a 15-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to two drug smugglers, along with a fine of Rs 2 lakh each, as confirmed by an NCB official. The convicted individuals are Sheikh Mohammad Sohel Abdul Kadar and Nadeem Sheikh, residents of Ahmedabad. The Narcotics Control Bureau’s Ahmedabad Zonal Unit intercepted the duo at Kalupur Railway Station on November 11, 2023, seizing 504 grams of Mephedrone from them.
The investigation revealed that both accused individuals confessed to their roles in procuring and transporting the contraband. Evidence such as call records, travel history, and financial transactions substantiated a chain of conspiracy and interstate drug trafficking. Following a comprehensive trial, the Special NDPS Court convicted the smugglers under the NDPS Act, 1985, for their involvement in the criminal activities, emphasizing the severity of drug-related offenses.
The NCB emphasizes the importance of public cooperation in combating drug trafficking and urges individuals to report any related information through the National Narcotics Helpline. Confidentiality of informants is guaranteed to encourage the sharing of crucial details in the fight against drug crimes.
