Two men were apprehended by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch for allegedly engaging in the black-marketing of tickets for the Indian Premier League (IPL) final set to occur at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 31. The suspects were nabbed with match tickets during a patrol operation on Sindhu Bhavan Road as part of a crackdown on illegal ticket resale before the high-profile event.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch had deployed police teams across the city to monitor black marketing and unauthorized resale of IPL final tickets. Acting on specific information, officers intercepted two suspects during patrol and seized four tickets for the IPL final from them. The arrested individuals were identified as Mann Patel, 19, and Safiq alias Bunny Mohammad Ayub Ansari, 24.
A case has been registered at the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police station under relevant sections of the Gujarat Police Act. Besides the tickets, authorities also confiscated two mobile phones allegedly used in the operation, with a total estimated value of the seized property at Rs 1.25 lakh.
The original price of the confiscated tickets was Rs 3,500 each, but they were being sold at Rs 10,000. The suspects had not sold any tickets yet. The IPL 2026 final is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31, with high demand for tickets since sales commenced earlier this month.
The recent arrests are part of a broader crackdown by Ahmedabad police on ticket touting associated with major cricket events at the Narendra Modi Stadium. In a previous incident, two men were arrested near the Gujarat Vidyapith ST bus stand for black marketing tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand.
