Two pregnant women successfully delivered baby girls on moving trains under Central Railway’s watchful eye. The first incident occurred on the 22538 Kushinagar Express from Mumbai to Bhusawal. A passenger alerted R.S. Teli, the Chief Ticket Inspector, about a woman in labor near the A-1 coach. Despite the overcrowded compartment, the woman was moved to a safer area near the A-1 coach where nurse Pooja Khadge helped her deliver a healthy baby girl.
Following the delivery, the Centralised Control Office Room at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus was informed. An ambulance, doctor, and stretcher were arranged at Igatpuri station where both mother and newborn were shifted to the railway hospital and reported safe. In a similar incident, another pregnant woman safely gave birth on the Pune-Supaul Express with the help of RPF personnel and passengers under Central Railway’s ‘Operation Matrishakti’.
The train was en route to Bihar’s Supaul district when Rukhsana Khatun suddenly went into labor. ‘Operation Matrishakti’ was swiftly activated, and a safe delivery was ensured onboard the train. Both mothers and newborns received medical attention and were reported to be in stable condition. These incidents underscore the efficient response and collaboration among railway staff, security personnel, medical professionals, and passengers during emergencies on trains.
