Two toddlers tragically lost their lives in Bengaluru’s Thanisandra area when a school bus accidentally ran over them. The victims, identified as Varsha aged 2 and Bhanu aged 4, were on a scooter with Naganagouda, a constable from Yadgir, when the incident occurred near the police quarters in the Hennur Traffic Police Station jurisdiction.
The children were riding with Naganagouda to buy milk when a private school bus, en route to pick up students, approached. Naganagouda halted the scooter to let the bus pass, but as the bus made a U-turn, it collided with the stationary scooter. This collision caused the children to fall onto the road, leading to the fatal accident.
Following the accident, the injured children were rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, they succumbed to their severe injuries and excessive bleeding. Naganagouda sustained minor injuries in the incident. Investigations revealed that the bus driver had a prior minor collision and was allegedly driving recklessly. The driver failed to notice the scooter and crashed into it, resulting in the tragic loss of the two young lives.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), North Division, visited the scene for inspection, and the school bus driver has been taken into custody by the Hennur traffic police for questioning. A case has been filed, and further investigations are ongoing. The bodies of the deceased children have been sent for a post-mortem examination at Yelahanka Government Hospital, where grieving family members gathered to mourn their loss.
