Two Trinamool Congress leaders have been arrested in separate districts of West Bengal on corruption charges. In North 24 Parganas district, the Chairman of Baduria municipality, Dipankar Bhattacharya, was found with nearly Rs 80 lakh and government-funded tarpaulins. Similarly, in South 24 Parganas district, large amounts of government goods were seized from the house of Trinamool regional President Gautam Aari, leading to his arrest.
Allegations of corruption had long been directed at the Chairman of Baduria municipality, who had been absent from his position for several days. Acting on information from confidential sources, the police arrested him on Monday night. The recovery of government tarpaulins from a Trinamool office and a garden house further fueled suspicions.
Complaints from the Communist Party of India-Marxist and the Bharatiya Janata Party led to the arrest of the Baduria municipality Chairman. Police sources revealed that Dipankar had hidden in a hotel with clothes and medicines, indicating a planned evasion. He is set to appear before the Basirhat Subdistrict Court.
Meanwhile, the discovery of government relief materials at the residence of Trinamool regional president Gautam Aari sparked outrage. Accusations of hoarding government relief and project materials were made by the BJP and locals. Authorities intervened, leading to the recovery of various government items from Aari’s house and his subsequent arrest by the police.
