Ukrainian and US delegations recently met in Florida to discuss crucial matters and the next steps in resolving the Ukraine crisis. Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council secretary, highlighted the focus on coordinating approaches for tangible progress. The discussions involved key issues and strategies to advance towards practical outcomes.
During the meeting, Umerov, along with Ukrainian officials, engaged with the US delegation, which included figures like Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Josh Gruenbaum, and Chris Curran. The Ukrainian side, comprising officials like David Arakhamia and Kyrylo Budanov, emphasized the importance of aligning strategies for effective negotiation progress. A report detailing the outcomes of the initial talks was presented to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
President Zelensky acknowledged the ongoing discussions between the Ukrainian and US teams, mentioning a crucial focus on gauging Russia’s willingness to resolve the crisis. The talks aimed at understanding Russia’s readiness to work towards a concrete resolution. The US delegation, as stated by Witkoff, expressed satisfaction with the constructive meetings, focusing on resolving outstanding issues to pave the way for a comprehensive peace agreement.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia’s absence from the recent talks, indicating a non-participation stance. Prior discussions involving delegations from Ukraine, the US, and Russia were held in Abu Dhabi and Geneva earlier this year. The continuous engagement between the Ukrainian and US delegations signifies a step towards addressing critical global stability concerns.
