The United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), the European Union (EU) delegation to Somalia, and diplomats from various foreign missions in the country have jointly urged for the resumption of dialogue and the establishment of an election roadmap in Somalia. The statement issued by these entities expressed concerns over the current situation in Somalia and emphasized the need for all parties to engage in dialogue promptly.
In a collective effort to address the political challenges in Somalia, the Embassies of multiple countries in Somalia and Nairobi, along with the EU delegation and UNTMIS, highlighted the importance of reaching a consensus on an election roadmap for the benefit of the Somali people. The international community has offered its support for Somali-led talks if requested, emphasizing the significance of prioritizing national interests and avoiding actions that could escalate tensions.
Following the conclusion of recent talks that failed to resolve key political disputes in Somalia, the UNTMIS has urged Somali leaders to find constructive solutions and unite to tackle pressing issues such as the humanitarian crisis and insecurity. The mission underscored the importance of overcoming divisions among political leaders and working collaboratively with international partners to address the country’s challenges.
