Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the focus of the agricultural fair in Raisen on implementing practical changes in farming by directly involving farmers with science, technology, and markets. The ‘Unnat Krishi Mela’ event, which includes an exhibition and training program, aims to offer hands-on learning opportunities for farmers. Chouhan stressed that the fair serves as a school where farmers can learn firsthand from scientists, experts, and progressive farmers.
The three-day event, running from April 11 to 13, has drawn thousands of participants, including farmers, scientists, agri-start-ups, and experts from various parts of the country. More than 300 stalls have been erected to exhibit innovations in agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, mechanization, animal husbandry, and food processing. Chouhan mentioned that over 4,000 farmers from Madhya Pradesh have registered for live demonstrations of new farming technologies during the event.
Chouhan also underlined the importance of enhancing farmers’ income and encouraged diversification beyond traditional farming practices. He suggested that through integrated farming, which combines crops with horticulture, animal husbandry, beekeeping, and poultry, farmers can earn over Rs 2 lakh annually even on small land holdings. The minister expressed his reverence for farmers, considering them the backbone of the economy, and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
