Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended India’s economic performance against criticism from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. She highlighted that India has consistently been the fastest-growing economy quarter after quarter and year after year. Sitharaman emphasized that it is not just the government but also GDP figures and the International Monetary Fund that support this claim.
Amidst concerns raised by Rahul Gandhi about impending disasters, Sitharaman reassured that India is progressing despite global challenges. She cautioned that continuous criticism could mislead citizens about the country’s economic status. The Minister pointed out that despite geopolitical tensions affecting global trade and fuel supplies, the Modi government has ensured a steady flow of petroleum products.
Sitharaman praised the BJP’s 12-year journey under Prime Minister Modi, citing achievements in development and welfare. She mentioned the significant reduction in multidimensional poverty, expansion of tap water connections, sanitation coverage, free LPG connections, and food security programs. The Minister also highlighted the government’s focus on reaching the poor through digital public infrastructure initiatives like Jan Dhan accounts, Aadhaar, and mobile connectivity.
