Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan led a high-level security meeting in Srinagar to assess preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath ji Yatra, scheduled to start on July 3. The meeting, held at the J&K Police headquarters, involved discussions on security and logistical arrangements with key officials from the J&K administration, Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces, and intelligence agencies.
Focus was placed on evaluating the security grid and operational readiness along the Pahalgam and Baltal pilgrimage routes. The review took place amidst increased security measures in J&K, including area domination exercises, route sanitization, and counter-terror surveillance in districts associated with the annual pilgrimage. Deployment plans, convoy security, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, emergency response systems, and disaster management preparedness were among the main topics discussed.
Officials also briefed the Home Secretary on various measures being implemented to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience, such as healthcare facilities, communication networks, transportation services, and rescue infrastructure. Recent security audits, mock drills, and joint exercises involving multiple agencies have been conducted to enhance coordination ahead of the Yatra. The visit underscored the government’s commitment to facilitating a disruption-free pilgrimage.
The meeting emphasized coordination among agencies responsible for security, traffic management, disaster response, and pilgrim welfare. Mock drills and joint exercises have been carried out by the J&K Police, CRPF, SDRF, and civil administration to test emergency response capabilities and strengthen inter-agency coordination. This security review is part of the broader assessment by the Union Home Ministry before the pilgrimage begins, drawing thousands of devotees annually to the cave shrine in the Kashmir Himalayas.
