Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, emphasized the inclusive development approach of the Modi government, ensuring support for all states regardless of political affiliations. Athawale highlighted Rajasthan’s significant assistance from both the Central and state governments for welfare programs and development projects.
Athawale hinted at a potential increase in the annual income limit for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) reservation, considering raising it from the current Rs 8 lakh to between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. He mentioned ongoing discussions with NITI Aayog to revise the eligibility criteria for EWS reservation, aiming to benefit a broader segment of society.
Addressing concerns over fuel prices, Athawale stated that the government would contemplate reducing petrol and diesel rates once the global situation stabilizes. He attributed the recent price pressures to international conflicts affecting petroleum supply chains, emphasizing that India’s fuel prices remain comparatively lower than in neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Athawale defended the government’s decision to conduct a caste-based census, criticizing the delay caused by the pandemic and questioning the Congress party’s historical inaction on this matter. He dismissed criticisms from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asserting that the Modi government remains dedicated to the holistic progress and welfare of all communities.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to equitable development, Athawale reiterated the support extended to Rajasthan and praised the state’s governance under the Bhajan Lal Sharma administration. He outlined the success of various central welfare schemes in Rajasthan, including the significant number of Jan Dhan accounts opened, beneficiaries of the Mudra Yojana, and households benefiting from the Ujjwala Yojana.
