Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticized Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advice to cut fuel consumption and avoid foreign travel amidst the global energy crisis following the US-Iran conflict. Singh compared this situation to the 1962 war with China when citizens were asked to contribute gold due to shortages in the country. Prime Minister Modi had recently urged citizens to reduce fuel usage and unnecessary foreign trips in light of the energy crisis.
Singh responded to Rahul Gandhi’s comments, highlighting PM Modi’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and questioning whether former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru should be considered a failure during the 1962 war with China. Singh emphasized that in times of need, such as during former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri’s rejection of rotten wheat imports, the public had made sacrifices and contributions.
Singh defended PM Modi’s call for people to give up subsidies, citing examples of past sacrifices made by the public during food shortages. He encouraged the use of induction stoves due to the current gas shortage, emphasizing the need for adaptation to the situation and recalling instances when citizens were asked to observe fasting due to shortages in the past.
