Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy criticized the Congress government in Telangana for delays in paddy procurement from farmers. Reddy highlighted that the Central government covers all costs related to grain procurement, including gunny bags, transportation, and storage rentals, putting no financial burden on the State government. He emphasized the need for a smooth procurement process, especially as Telangana leads in paddy production.
Alleging that the State government is blaming the Central government for its own shortcomings, Reddy pointed out protests by farmers demanding timely procurement. He urged state ministers to actively oversee procurement operations at the district level and address farmers’ challenges, rather than staying confined to press conferences in Hyderabad.
Reddy also criticized the State government for its handling of the Fasal Bima Yojana and farm loan waiver schemes, accusing it of neglecting farmers’ interests. He highlighted the Central government’s support for farmers by providing urea at a subsidized rate, despite global price increases, and called for better planning to manage the current surge in agricultural yields.
