Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia conducted a comprehensive review of various initiatives in Namchi, Sikkim, focusing on education, tourism, tea production, and sports development. During his visit, he engaged with local stakeholders, students, tea workers, and young athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and opportunities in the Northeast. Scindia inspected the progress of the under-construction Khangchendzonga Sikkim State University, the first state university in Sikkim, which is set to accommodate over 1,500 students upon completion.
Scindia also visited the Temi Tea Estate and Processing Unit, interacting with tea workers and officials to understand the tea production process and explore international market prospects. Additionally, he visited the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco Tourism in Chemchey to review the development of the Namchi–Temi–Ravangla tourism circuit in collaboration with the Government of Sikkim. The Minister assessed the facilities and activities at the center, including adventure sports like rock climbing, cycling tracks, trekking, and mountaineering.
Furthermore, Minister Scindia attended the semi-final of the Sikkim Premier League at the Bhaichung Stadium, where he emphasized Prime Minister Modi’s vision of establishing the Northeast as a prominent sporting destination in India. He highlighted the “One Sport, One State” approach and the Ministry’s focus on coaching, talent identification, and technology to boost sports infrastructure. Scindia also inspected the Bhaleydhunga Skywalk Project, a part of the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region, aimed at enhancing Sikkim’s tourism infrastructure and adventure tourism potential.
