Union Minister for Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, began a three-day visit to West Bengal by inspecting the IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur and inaugurating a new RCC water reservoir. The reservoir, with a capacity of 84,000 cubic meters, is crucial for expanding the plant’s capacity in the future. The visit included a detailed assessment of ongoing projects, production facilities, infrastructure, sustainability efforts, and employee welfare at the plant.
The newly constructed RCC Water Reservoir at IISCO Steel Plant is designed to meet the water needs of COB-10 and support the future 4.08 MTPA Expansion Project. The system includes a Booster Pump House, a Pump House for COB-10, and a Process Water Pump House to enhance water conservation and operational efficiency. Union Minister Kumaraswamy also inspected the COB-12 Project, focusing on capacity augmentation initiatives at IISCO.
During the review, officials highlighted the plant’s achievements, including 2.9 million tonnes of hot metal production in FY 2025-26. Kumaraswamy stressed the importance of timely completion of expansion projects to bolster India’s steel manufacturing capabilities. The visit also involved examining the blast furnace, operational performance, and ongoing modernization efforts at the plant.
A comprehensive meeting chaired by the Union Minister discussed production performance, modernization projects, sustainability initiatives, and growth strategies for IISCO Steel Plant. Kumaraswamy commended the increase in capital expenditure at the plant and emphasized the government’s commitment to worker safety. The visit also saw discussions with West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul on enhancing industrial development and strengthening the steel sector through collaborative efforts.
