Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, will lead a special edition of the Fit India Cyclothon at Mumbai’s Worli Coastal Cycle Track on Wednesday. The event, organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), aims to promote fitness and cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. Nearly 250 cyclists are expected to participate, including fitness enthusiasts, sportspersons, students, and the public.
Set against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea, the cyclothon emphasizes the importance of integrating fitness into daily life. It serves as a prelude to International Yoga Day, highlighting the shared focus of yoga and cycling on physical and mental well-being. Mandaviya, a strong supporter of the Fit India Movement, has actively advocated for cycling to enhance public health.
The Fit India Movement, in collaboration with various organizations, has gained significant traction, engaging over 30 lakh participants across three lakh locations. The cyclothon in Mumbai aims to further promote community participation in physical activities and sustainable mobility through cycling. This event aligns with the broader goal of fostering a culture of fitness and well-being across India.
The Mumbai cyclothon also marks the beginning of the global celebrations for the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21. This day, observed in over 180 countries, underscores India’s leadership in promoting holistic health and well-being. Initiatives like Fit India Sundays on Cycle and Yoga Day reflect India’s commitment to encouraging a healthier and more active lifestyle worldwide.
