Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, recently appointed as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, will kick off alliance discussions with the AIADMK and other NDA partners during a visit to Chennai. This visit signals the start of the BJP’s efforts to form alliances and share seats for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Goyal will start by holding internal meetings at Kamalalayam, the BJP’s state headquarters, to assess organizational readiness and plan the party’s electoral strategy. The discussions are expected to cover booth-level consolidation, campaign strategies, and ways to enhance coordination among alliance members.
Further, Goyal will meet with NDA partners at a hotel in MRC Nagar to discuss alliance structures, seat-sharing arrangements, and coalition dynamics. He is also scheduled to meet AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami during this meeting, marking a significant step in their engagement.
Later in the day, Goyal will meet with Governor R.N. Ravi at Raj Bhavan to discuss administrative and political developments in Tamil Nadu. The BJP’s decision to entrust Goyal with the Tamil Nadu mandate reflects its aim to build a strong NDA well before the elections. Goyal is expected to return to New Delhi after completing his engagements in Chennai.
