Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a successful visit to Canada, emphasizing the growing momentum in India-Canada relations. During his trip, he met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, and Foreign Minister Anita Anand. Goyal’s engagements included addressing a ministerial session in Toronto, interacting with industry leaders, and participating in investment discussions.
The visit showcased Goyal’s involvement in a Canada investment roundtable, interactions with regional chamber representatives in the India-Canada corridor, and meetings with the Canada-India Foundation members. He also visited the Ontario Centre of Innovation, engaging with Indian business delegates, CEOs, and industry chamber heads to explore trade and investment opportunities. Goyal highlighted the commitment to increase bilateral trade between India and Canada to $50 billion by 2030, from the current $8.5 billion.
Focused on enhancing economic ties, the visit aimed to advance negotiations for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Goyal emphasized India’s vibrant startup ecosystem and potential collaborations with Canada in sectors like AI, cleantech, agritech, and deep-tech. Discussions with Ontario Premier Doug Ford centered on strengthening India-Ontario collaboration across various sectors of mutual interest, including manufacturing, technology, and clean energy.
