Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, led a high-level review meeting to evaluate India’s readiness for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. The meeting aimed to enhance coordination among stakeholders and bolster the support system for Indian athletes gearing up for the event. Senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) were present at the meeting.
The review session underscored the joint commitment of the ministry, IOA, SAI, Gujarat government, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive preparations for India’s participation in the Commonwealth Games 2026. Minister Mandaviya emphasized the government’s dedication to providing extensive support to Indian athletes for their optimal performance at the Games. He stressed the significance of meticulous planning, agency coordination, and athlete-focused training to ensure a successful campaign.
Additionally, discussions during the meeting covered arrangements for the closing ceremony of CWG 2026, where India will officially receive the baton as the host of the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and other senior Gujarat government representatives were also part of the review. The gathering assessed the progress of inter-ministerial coordination efforts led by the Secretary (Sports) and various ministries for operational and logistical preparations for Glasgow 2026.
The meeting delved into facilitation mechanisms, departmental coordination, and the seamless execution of arrangements for the Indian contingent. Officials from SAI and the Ministry outlined the roadmap for the Games, encompassing competition exposure, training schedules, support staff deployment, and contingency planning.
