The death toll from the recent earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 1,430, with over 3,000 people injured and more than 3,000 families impacted by the disaster. Following the powerful magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes, the country has experienced 430 light to moderate aftershocks, as per the latest update from Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
Rodriguez expressed condolences to the victims and mentioned that numerous individuals are engaged in continuous search and rescue operations. Additionally, the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research reported a magnitude-4.1 earthquake in the central region, further unsettling the population already reeling from the recent devastating quakes. The latest tremor’s epicenter was near La Guaira, a port city heavily affected by the earlier earthquakes.
Residents in Caracas and nearby areas felt the earthquake, prompting many to evacuate buildings fearing structural damage. This seismic activity follows the significant quakes earlier in the week that caused widespread destruction, including building collapses and landslides. Authorities are facing challenges in coordinating relief efforts, while seismologists are closely monitoring the situation and urging the public to rely on official information sources to prevent unnecessary panic.
