Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu recently inspected the revamped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station in the company of senior Ferozepur Division officials. The visit aimed to assess the station’s readiness for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming inauguration of the redevelopment project on July 17.
The 110-year-old Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station underwent a modernization process costing around Rs 125 crore. The renovation project focused on preserving the station’s historical architecture while integrating elements that showcase Punjab’s cultural heritage.
Notable enhancements at the station include a spacious double-height air concourse, durable steel platform roofing, energy-efficient LED lighting, slip-resistant flooring, and improved access from both sides of the city. Additionally, two new foot-over bridges have been constructed to enhance passenger convenience.
The revamped station boasts a 40-meter-wide trough roof covering a 200-meter platform length, a 36-meter-wide air concourse spanning 1,770 square meters, a new second entry with a 300 square meter station building, and a parking area measuring 4,855 square meters. These upgrades aim to elevate the station’s facilities to world-class standards.
The Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, which currently serves approximately 7,500 passengers daily, accommodates 66 Up and 66 Down trains. This includes premium services like Vande Bharat Express trains, Humsafar Express, Garib Rath Express, as well as various Mail, Express, and passenger trains. Notably, the station is solely dedicated to passenger services and does not handle any goods traffic.
Minister Ravneet Singh, during the inspection, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the redevelopment works and the ongoing arrangements at the station. He highlighted that the upgraded facility will significantly improve passenger convenience, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to providing modern, safe, and culturally resonant infrastructure in Punjab.
