Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita presented a check for the conservation of cultural and heritage sites during his official trip to Tuvalu. He participated in a State Banquet hosted by the Tuvalu government and delivered the initial aid installment for preserving cultural heritage sites through the Quick Impact Project (QIP). India’s assistance also includes a sea ambulance, food grain aid, and sponsorship for 10 patients for specialized medical care in India under the “Heal in India” initiative, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
During his visit, Margherita experienced a lively performance of traditional Tuvaluan fatele by local community members, showcasing the nation’s diverse culture. He toured Princess Margaret Hospital in Funafuti, engaging with dedicated healthcare professionals providing vital services to the community. Margherita’s discussions with Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation between India and Vanuatu across various sectors, emphasizing their joint commitment to the welfare and advancement of their populations.
Margherita’s official visit to Vanuatu commenced on April 22 in Port Vila, reinforcing India’s close ties with both Vanuatu and Tuvalu and underscoring India’s position as a reliable development partner. This visit aligns with India’s ongoing interaction with Pacific island nations under the Act East Policy and the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation framework, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. The minister’s engagements build upon the significant third Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation held in May 2023 in Port Moresby, as highlighted by the MEA.
