Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, introduced the logo for India’s groundbreaking Cycling League of India, the world’s premier franchise-based road cycling league. This initiative is hailed as a pivotal moment for cycling in the country, aiming to establish a professional ecosystem that fosters talent, garners global attention, and aligns with the vision of a healthy and active India.
Dr. Mandaviya expressed that this league, comprising eight city or region-based franchises, will include ten cyclists each, with a mix of international riders and junior cyclists to nurture Indian talent. The competitions will span three phases, culminating in a grand finale featuring various race formats to offer strategic competition and engaging viewing experiences for spectators.
The Minister highlighted the growing interest in professional cycling in India, citing successful events like the Pune Grand Tour and the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative. These efforts have not only boosted professional cycling but also promoted cycling as a mass movement, with widespread participation across the country.
Ravneet Gill, CEO of New Horizon Alliance Private Limited, emphasized the long-term vision behind the league, aiming to build a sustainable sporting ecosystem. The league is anticipated to bolster India’s cycling landscape, provide more opportunities for athletes, and elevate the country’s standing in global sports while inspiring a new generation to embrace cycling.
India’s sports scene is witnessing a surge in professional leagues, with more such initiatives expected in 2026. This trend is set to enhance the country’s sports infrastructure and competitive environment, further solidifying India’s presence on the global sporting stage.
