The planned unity between Kerala’s influential Hindu organizations, SNDP Yogam and NSS, has been paused. The NSS director board decided to defer the unity proposal, maintaining their stance of staying neutral towards political parties and social groups. This decision contrasts sharply with the optimism expressed earlier by NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair.
Reacting to the NSS’s change of heart, Natesan, the leader of SNDP Yogam, expressed surprise and stated he would wait before responding. Last week, Sukumaran Nair had welcomed SNDP Yogam leaders to the NSS headquarters, expressing certainty about the unity. However, the approval for the alliance has now been postponed, signaling a setback to the anticipated collaboration.
The initiative for unity, seen as a social necessity rather than a political move, aimed to bridge past differences. The previous attempt at consolidation between the two organizations in 2012-2014 had failed due to ideological disagreements. The current pause in the unity efforts has political implications, potentially impacting the upcoming Assembly polls and the Congress-led UDF.
