The UP Warriorz are dedicating a special match in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 to advocate for free, flexible, and lifelong education for girls. Saturday’s match against the Mumbai Indians aims to highlight the importance of providing every girl with opportunities both on the field and in education.

This initiative stems from the Warriorz’ collaboration with Educate Girls, a grassroots organization focused on improving educational access for girls in underserved communities. The partnership emphasizes open schooling as a crucial pathway for girls who have discontinued formal education due to various reasons.

Open schooling enables learners to complete their 10th and 12th grades without the constraints of traditional daily schooling, offering flexibility, credibility, and affordable access. This model particularly benefits adolescent girls, young women, athletes, caregivers, and first-generation learners by providing a second chance to pursue education in alignment with their lives.

Educate Girls, operational in 12 states, is working to enhance the open schooling system and aims to reach 10 million learners within 10 years, promoting education as a lifelong opportunity rather than a one-time endeavor. Through the platform of the WPL, the UP Warriorz are leveraging broadcast channels, in-stadium experiences, and fan engagement to elevate the conversation on education, moving from awareness to advocacy.

Before the match, the team will wear a limited-edition jersey designed exclusively for this event in collaboration with artist Harun Robert, also known as Rob. The jersey features excerpts of handwritten letters from girls associated with Educate Girls, expressing their dreams, hopes, and ambitions for the future. This jersey symbolizes aspiration, amplifying the voices of girls on cricket’s prominent stage.

Safeena Husain, Founder and Board Member of Educate Girls, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating that it showcases the importance of girls’ voices and aspirations. The collaboration with UP Warriorz reframes education as a lifelong commitment, emphasizing the value of flexible, accessible, and second-chance programs that allow learning to commence, pause, and resume at any point in a girl’s life.

Through this special match, the UP Warriorz reaffirm their dedication to using sports as a catalyst for meaningful change, ensuring that the impact of women’s cricket extends beyond the boundaries.
