A commanding performance by skipper Meg Lanning guided UP Warriorz to a 22-run victory over defending champions Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 10th match at DY Patil Stadium. Mumbai Indians fell short in their chase of 188 runs, managing only 165 for six in 20 overs against a disciplined UP Warriorz bowling attack.
Mumbai Indians faced early setbacks with the loss of key wickets, putting them on the back foot from the start. Despite efforts from players like Amanjot and Amelia Kerr, Mumbai struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal for 18 runs added to Mumbai’s woes, leading to a challenging chase.
Amelia Kerr played a crucial role for Mumbai Indians with a quickfire 49 off 28 balls, supported by Amanjot Kaur’s composed 41 off 24 deliveries. The duo’s partnership of 83 runs briefly revived Mumbai’s hopes, but a well-timed breakthrough by UP Warriorz shifted the momentum. Despite Kerr’s unbeaten effort, Mumbai fell short of the target.
UP Warriorz, batting first, posted a formidable total of 187 for eight, anchored by Meg Lanning’s impressive 70 off 45 balls and Phoebe Litchfield’s 61 off 37 balls. Lanning’s half-century, her 11th in the league, set a new WPL record. The Warriorz finished strongly with contributions from Chloe Tryon and Harleen Deol, ensuring a competitive total.
The Warriorz bowling unit, led by Deepti Sharma and Shikha Pandey, worked cohesively to restrict Mumbai Indians. Sophie Ecclestone and Kranti Gaud applied pressure in the middle overs, while Pandey’s crucial breakthroughs dented Mumbai’s chase. Despite a late fightback from Mumbai, UP Warriorz emerged victorious by 22 runs.
