US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited the 26/11 memorial at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai to honor the victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Gor expressed his condolences, remembering the 166 lives lost, including 6 Americans, and commended Indian security forces for their bravery.
Gor’s visit coincided with his recent appointment as US Ambassador to India, following his presentation of credentials to President Droupadi Murmu in January 2026. The 2008 attacks, carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, targeted several iconic locations in Mumbai over four days, resulting in 166 fatalities and numerous injuries.
Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian businessman linked to the attacks, was extradited to India from the US in April 2025 to face trial for his alleged involvement in the planning. This extradition was a significant step in bilateral counter-terrorism efforts and fulfilled India’s demand for accountability.
Ambassador Gor’s visit underscored the strong US-India partnership in combating terrorism and praised the courage of Indian security personnel who responded to the attacks. The 26/11 memorials, particularly at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, serve as symbols of resilience and remembrance, emphasizing the shared commitment to preventing such tragedies.
Gor’s message highlighted the enduring cooperation between the US and India in pursuing justice, enhancing security cooperation, and honoring the victims of terrorism. This gesture reaffirms the unity of the two nations in the face of evolving global threats.
