As the United States and India have reached an interim trade agreement, US tariffs on Indian goods have been reduced to 18%, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced. The agreement sets the framework for a mutually beneficial trade partnership between the two countries, providing greater market access and opportunities for Indian exporters.
Prime Minister Modi also welcomed the agreement, describing it as ‘great news’ for both nations. He expressed gratitude to President Trump for his dedication to strengthening ties between India and the US. Modi emphasized that the agreement signifies the deepening trust and dynamism of the India-US partnership, particularly benefiting various sectors like farmers, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
The trade agreement was lauded by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, who highlighted its potential to enhance economic cooperation and sustainable growth for both countries. Goyal emphasized that the agreement will open up a significant $30 trillion market for Indian exporters, particularly benefiting MSMEs, farmers, and fishermen, leading to the creation of numerous job opportunities for women and youth.
