A large cache of previously classified files on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) has been made public by the US Pentagon. These files reveal decades of unexplained aerial sightings reported by various individuals, including astronauts, military personnel, intelligence officials, and civilians. The released material, comprising over 160 files, includes military videos, infrared imagery, FBI memos, NASA transcripts, and eyewitness accounts dating back from the 1940s through 2026.
The declassified archive, published following a directive from US President Donald Trump, contains military infrared videos capturing fast-moving unidentified objects, radar tracks of unusual aerial shapes, and objects that changed direction rapidly. These files document numerous mysterious aerial incidents worldwide, with sightings reported over regions like North America, the Middle East, the East China Sea, Africa, and the Mediterranean region near Greece.
Among the contents are transcripts and images from the Apollo Moon missions, where astronauts reported seeing unusual phenomena. For instance, during a 1969 debriefing, an astronaut mentioned a “fairly bright light source” near the Moon. Additionally, during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, astronauts observed bright tumbling lights. Older FBI records also describe witness accounts of disk-shaped, egg-shaped, and cigar-like crafts hovering silently before accelerating away at high speeds.
The files also include reports of unexplained aerial activities that investigators could not definitively identify. Notably, there were descriptions of small humanoid figures, approximately four feet tall, near unidentified crafts, although these accounts remain officially unverified. The documents have been uploaded to a new public Pentagon portal dedicated to UAP disclosures, with plans for further releases in subsequent phases. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the release aims to address public demands for transparency after years of anticipation.
