US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit India from May 23-26, with stops in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi. The visit is set against the backdrop of upcoming talks focusing on the Quad partnership, energy security, trade, and defense cooperation, amidst escalating geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East.
Rubio’s travel plans were announced by the State Department, revealing that he will first attend the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden, on May 22 before heading to India. Discussions during his visit to India will cover energy security, trade, and defense cooperation with senior Indian officials.
Apart from engaging in bilateral meetings with Indian leaders in New Delhi, Rubio is expected to participate in the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. The visit is considered crucial for strengthening the US-India strategic partnership, particularly in light of current challenges in the Middle East.
