In a move to enhance the educational sector, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet sanctioned a raise in the honorarium for ‘Shikshamitras’ (para-teachers) and part-time instructors. The increased honorarium, effective from April 1, will directly benefit a large number of educational staff in the state, promoting the education system. The honorarium for ‘Shikshamitras’ has been elevated from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000, while for part-time instructors, it has been raised from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000.
The revised honorarium rates will be applicable from April, with the updated payments scheduled for disbursement in May. Over 1.43 lakh ‘Shikshamitras’ are expected to gain from this decision. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh shared that there are currently 1,42,929 ‘Shikshamitras’ employed in the state, with 1,29,332 of them previously receiving honorarium from the Central government under the ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’.
The state government will bear the additional cost of Rs 1,138.12 crore due to the increased honorarium under the ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’. Additionally, for the remaining 13,597 ‘Shiksha Mitras’, whose remuneration is entirely state-funded, the state administration will cover an extra financial burden of Rs 119.65 crore. The monthly honorarium for part-time instructors has been raised from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000, benefiting 24,717 part-time instructors in 13,769 upper primary schools across the state.
The updated honorarium for part-time instructors will be effective from April 1, with the enhanced payments reflected in the May disbursements. This decision is projected to impose an additional financial burden exceeding Rs 1,475.27 crore on the state government. The approval aligns with the announcement made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the first session of the 2026 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
