Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath initiated the state-wide ‘Mega Tree Plantation Drive’ in Gorakhpur by planting a sapling near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. The campaign, named ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ aims to plant 35 crore saplings this year under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Accompanied by Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad and Minister of State for Forest and Environment Arun Kumar Saxena, the Chief Minister kickstarted the large-scale plantation campaign. Gorakhpur has been assigned the responsibility of planting 55,28,600 saplings as part of this initiative. The Forest Department, along with 27 government departments, is actively participating in this ambitious drive.
Highlighting the cultural significance of environmental conservation in India, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of nature preservation. He stressed that tree plantation is a way to express gratitude towards nature for providing life essentials like food, water, and air. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak encouraged widespread participation in the ‘State-wide Tree Plantation Mega-Drive 2026’ to enhance the state’s green cover.
The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign encourages people to plant trees in their mother’s name, fostering ecological conservation and public involvement. This initiative, described as one of the state government’s largest environmental endeavors, aims to promote a greener and healthier environment for all residents.
