Marking a significant change in education policy, the Uttarakhand government will eliminate the existing Uttarakhand Madrasa Board and introduce the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority. The transition will occur overnight, with the new body commencing operations the following day.
In preparation for this shift, Uttarakhand Special Secretary Parag Madhukar Dhakate announced that the new regulations will be enforced starting July 1, bringing all minority institutions under the State Minority Education Authority’s oversight. Minority institutions will adopt the new framework, exposing children from these communities to a more contemporary education system.
Under the new regulations, madrasas will no longer follow traditional practices but will align with the Uttarakhand Board curriculum by July 2026. The updated curriculum will emphasize modern subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Computer Science in these minority institutions.
Any institutions found violating these guidelines have been warned of potential closure. The decision has garnered support from various quarters, including educated individuals and scholars within the community.
Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams praised the new minority education board, highlighting its role in ensuring equal opportunities for students graduating from madrasas. The dissolution of the Madrasa Education Board on July 1 signifies a shift towards a more transparent, accountable, and improved education system for madrasa students.
