Residents in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, will soon benefit from a government initiative to establish 24 smart parks in the city. These parks will offer yoga, walking, and gym facilities, providing convenient access to fitness and recreational amenities close to home.
Of the 24 parks planned, 20 have already been completed, with the remaining four nearing completion and expected to open to the public shortly. The development of these parks aims to address the growing concerns related to health, stress, and obesity by promoting physical activities like morning walks and yoga.
In response to the increasing urbanization that has led to a decline in green spaces, the Varanasi Development Authority has taken steps to revitalize parks in the city. The decision to redevelop these parks was made after the Narendra Modi-led government’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Amrendra Tiwari, Chief General Manager of Varanasi Smart City, highlighted the modernization efforts in the parks, including the installation of play equipment for children, well-constructed walking paths, and decorative wall paintings. These parks will not only encourage walking but also provide spaces for yoga and light exercises, promoting a healthier lifestyle for residents.
Once all the parks are fully operational in the New Year, the people of Varanasi will have the opportunity to embrace a healthier lifestyle without having to travel far, enjoying these facilities right in their neighborhoods.
