Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje highlighted the crucial role of women in the foundation of a family, stating that if this foundation weakens, it impacts the entire household structure. Speaking at an event in Jaipur, she noted the importance of women’s representation in politics, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which mandates 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.
Raje urged women to take charge of their progress and collaborate for the betterment of fellow women. She rejected the notion of a male-dominated society, emphasizing the equal contribution of both genders. Reflecting on her tenure, she mentioned initiatives like the Bhamashah Scheme in 2008, aimed at empowering women as family heads, and the introduction of 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions in Rajasthan.
On International Women’s Day, Raje encouraged women to make independent decisions, strive for economic self-reliance, and support each other. She highlighted the significant progress in women’s empowerment, noting the rise in women’s literacy rate to nearly 68% and the increase in women entrepreneurs to around 2 crore in India. Additionally, she mentioned the growing representation of women in various sectors, such as the civil services and armed forces.
