VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan has announced that he will not be contesting the upcoming Tiruchirappalli East Assembly by-election. He made this decision clear in a video statement, stating his lack of interest in seeking legislative or ministerial positions through electoral opportunities. Thirumavalavan emphasized that he will not participate in any future by-elections as well.
His announcement comes amidst speculation that he might contest from Tiruchirappalli East and potentially join the Cabinet if elected. Thirumavalavan confirmed that he was approached regarding the bypoll candidacy and a ministerial role but declined the offers. He expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him but reiterated his decision to abstain from electoral contests.
Thirumavalavan highlighted that his dedication to public service and social justice is not reliant on holding elected positions. He emphasized that contributions to governance and public welfare can be effectively made outside of legislative roles. Additionally, he explained the VCK’s support for the ruling alliance post-Assembly elections, emphasizing the importance of political stability in Tamil Nadu.
Reflecting on his past criticism of Chief Minister Vijay during the election campaign, Thirumavalavan noted the evolving political landscape and the necessity for a broader approach focused on stability and governance. He urged his party members and supporters to disregard rumors about his future participation in by-elections, affirming that his decision is final.
